Designing a system for your Building
Heat Loss / Heat Gain
The most important factor in designing any heating and or cooling system for your building is a Heat Loss / Heat Gain calculation. Your Building plans are used to establish your buildings requirements and then size the most appropriate system for your building. As a contractor or owner it is important that whatever the installed system becomes, it can properly mach the loads of the building. The old rule of thumb doesn’t cut it!!!! Undersized and oversized systems make for added costs, inefficient payback and added service calls.
Here at Geo-Tech we do not provide quotations without first having a Heat Loss / Heat Gain calculation having been done. These calculations should you decide not to go with a Geo Exchange system are yours and can be used to size any heating or cooling system.
Once you have your calculations you must then decide on whether you want Forced Air, In Floor Radiant, or both. Forced Air can give both heating and cooling through properly sized ductwork, and is proven to be the most cost effective way of achieving both Heating and Cooling. In Floor Radiant gives the ability to have nice warm floors but cannot provide any air conditioning without the addition of equipment and ducting. In larger buildings where more than one piece of equipment is required in order to satisfy the Loads a combination of the two systems is beneficial.
After you have decided on these factors you can then get started on Quotations for you system. Things to consider when picking your system:
- Initial installation costs
- Annual Operating costs
- Service costs
- Equipment lifespan
- Environmental impact
- Future cost increases
Heat Loss / Heat Gain Calculations starting at $450 + tax for up to and including 2000sq/ft homes. Larger homes will need to be quoted.
Forced Air Ductwork and Hydronic (In Floor Radiant) sizing is also available.
